“Our ambition is to create a net zero nation, resilient to climate change.”
Kenoteq has been working with Environment Agency on a trial project to test K-BRIQs as an innovative masonry solution which can lessen environmental impact together with helping to combat climate change.
Traditional masonry made of clay and concrete is derived from the earth’s precious raw materials. Mining these finite resources not only has a negative environmental impact, the process and materials are hugely energy intensive and high carbon.
Kenoteq’s K-BRIQs made from recycled UK construction and demolition waste not only represent a solution to the UK’s largest contributor of waste, but also negate the need to mine more of the earth’s finite raw materials. They give waste materials from the built environment a new life within the built environment.
It’s easy to understand the environmental benefits for use by a body such as the Environment Agency and possible applications across the agency’s portfolio is vast. However it made sense to start off with a trial wall project at one of their depots to assess their useability and performance.
Feedback from the bricklayers working on the project was extremely positive:
“K-BRIQs are easy to handle, have less sharp edges and are generally more manageable”
“Their colouring stayed strong & were easy to clean down - we would be happy to use again.”
“The K-BRIQs lay just like any other brick apart … and they appeared to float better than expected.”
“ The bricks cut just like any other brick, arguably easier with a trowel then a standard brick. Machine cut is fine too with what appears to be less dust produced.”
Kenoteq are continuing to work with the Environment Agency and their partners such as Arup to assess where the products will have most impact on their project portfolio.
