‘strong environmental and ecological character’

Kenoteq is honoured that the K-BRIQ is being used for facade work on one of the most sustainable new hospitals in the UK, the NHS New Velindre Cancer Centre. The construction of the NVCC is underway on one of the largest projects that Wales has seen in decades, with a gross external area covering 60,000 square metres. The K-BRIQ is being used within the service yard area of the facility.

The state-of-the-art treatment centre, due to open in Spring 2027, aims to expand and improve the quality of oncology care in South East Wales and will serve a population of 1.7 million people. Its sustainable features support Wales’ broader ambition to be net zero and resilient for future generations.

NVCC is global construction company, Sacyr UK’s, first DBFOM project in the UK. Kenoteq’s relationship with Sacyr goes back to 2022, when, out of 276 applicants from 34 countries, the company won the Sacyr Foundation’s Open Innovation programme, iChallenges, presenting the K-BRIQ as a solution to preventing green house gases in construction projects.

Kenoteq is supplying 1,000m2 of K-BRIQs to this project which contain over 120 tonnes of recycled construction and demolition waste and save the project more than 26 tonnes of CO2e compared to using a traditional clay brick. This is the equivalent of roughly 3-4 years energy use for an average UK home.
