The ‘ONE’ Garden featuring the K-BRIQ wins Gold at RHS Malvern Spring Festival
The K-BRIQ in its wide array of colours was the key hardscaping material in the multi-award winning ‘ONE Garden’ at RHS Malvern in England last weekend. The garden took home the GOLD Award as well as the highly coveted ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Environment and Innovation’ awards.
Designed and built by Tythorne Garden Design in collaboration with Pickwell Paving, the garden used 25m2 of K-BRIQs in the creation of feature walling, raised flower beds, benches, a stunning water feature and pool as well as some marker paving.
The sustainability-focused ‘ONE Garden’ relied entirely on mortar-free construction through cabling the ultra low carbon recycled K-BRIQs together to eliminate cement and their associated high carbon emissions. The K-BRIQs themselves recycled over 3 tonnes of UK construction and demolition waste and saved the project 95% carbon emissions in its hardscaping materials compared to if it had been built in traditional fired clay or concrete bricks.
Visited by Alan Titmarsh and featured on BBC 2’s Gardeners’ World, the contemporary garden was a real crowd-stopper with its rich layering of colour and texture through both the K-BRIQs and its planting.
Created for a single person, the design celebrated the garden as a calm, restorative sanctuary, as well as a creative space that nurtured plants and well being.
The garden encouraged visitors to rethink traditional approaches, demonstrating how sustainable materials and unconventional construction can successfully shape small, meaningful domestic gardens.
